Mexico – approved by the chickens

Mexico, our last destination during this world tour, have charmed us with its joyous and warm population, its cenotes, its colorful colonial cities and its temples nestled in a green jungle. Here are the last favorites of the chickens, and to illustrate this, a video of our Mexican adventures, aïe aïe aïe!

Río lagartos

  • Río lagartos hotel – for a luxury hotel (one of the most beautiful we have done during our trip) at a very competitive price. A caring staff, a nice pool, a perfect rooftop!
  • Restaurant El Noa Noa de pixo’s – to taste octopus tacos to die for in this little local address

Valladolid and its region

  • Cafe arte – to refresh yourself with an horcharta, a delight in the courtyard of this little bazaar in the city center
  • Ek balam temple – for this beautiful temple in the jungle and the beautiful view it offers at its summit
  • Hacienda and cenote Oxman – to admire this beautiful cenote in a beautiful setting of a traditional hacienda, and to have fun playing voltigeurs thanks to the swing available in the cenote
  • Shop Arte y passion (trouver la rue) – to treat yourself with a beautiful piece of Mexican craftsmanship at Sergio’s, a true passionate

Merida and its region

  • Shop El cielo hammocks – to buy a beautiful handmade fair trade hammock, made by the Mayan communities of the region… Do not miss it under any circumstances!
  • The Laguna Rosada Xtampu – to admire these beautiful pink salt marshes
  • Cenote kankirixche – to admire this cenote and its stalagmites and stalactites immersed in this semi open cave (prefer lunch break as this cenote can get very busy)
  • Cenote de San Antonio de Mulix, especially the cenote dzombakal for its tranquility in the morning and its clear blue waters
  • Hacienda Ochil – to enjoy a relaxing moment for lunch in this beautiful hacienda and stroll through this green haven and be mistaken for zorro

Campeche

Calakmul

  • Restaurant Bistro Mahahau – for quality cuisine at a ridiculous price and for the kindness of its young owner
  • Temple Calakmul – to roam the jungle almost alone in the world and admire the endless selva perched on one of the imposing temples of the site

Bacalar

  • Cenote cocalitos – to relax in the water lying in a hammock admiring the 7 colors of the lagoon
  • Restaurant Kai Pez – for the quality of the dishes, the beautiful setting on the crystalline lagoon of Bacalar, and the impeccable service of this seaside restaurant
  • Casa posada Madrid – for an efficient hotel, good value for money in order to make the most of the pueblo mágico de Bacalar

Tulum

  • This city does not have much interest unless to dive in the cenotes, if it is the case, spend the night at Joy tulum – for these pretty huts in glamping mode in a pretty frame and benefit from its swimming pool and its nice breakfast
  • Easy Chango Dive Center – Relaxed and relaxed dives safely at more decent prices than the competition (pass them to book, it’s even cheaper!)

Palenque

  • Casa posada Aguila real – for a nice little unpretentious hotel, great location in town, with a full breakfast
  • Tropi tacos – for a restaurant not very glamorous but has the merit of serving excellent tacos
  • Cafe jade – for this well-known local address, its pretty patio, quality food at a moderate price and impeccable service

San Cristóbal de las casas

  • Restaurant La lupe – for a delicious breakfast on the terrace, the breakfast ranchero and the coffee of olla to test absolutely
  • Restaurant El mercadito – for a local address that offers Chiapas specialties at a moderate price in a Mexican Bistro atmosphere
  • La tienda de Melina – for a  delicious hot chocolate and to shop some delicateness
  • Brassa (San Augustin area) – for an address more expensive than our usual budget but to test. Tasty and finely prepared dishes
