Indonesia – approved by the chickens

Indonesia is our longest stop during this world tour. The richness and diversity of its islands will not have left us indifferent. Many beautiful places to contemplate, here are some of the favorite from the chickens.

Java island

Yogyakarta

  • Restaurant and café Via Via – an address well known by tourists but worth the trip for the atmosphere and tasty dishes
  • Kaula leather workshop – the perfect address for creating beautiful leather items guided by Abenk in a setting conducive to creativity
  • Restaurant Milas – to enjoy delicious Indonesian, Western or Indian vegetarian dishes and enjoy some shopping at the market just before the restaurant
  • Café and restaurant Esco – a rather western address but to do for its setting and its great menu

Yogyakarta region

  • Cafe Aléa kopi in Bodobudur for a drink only, next to the majestic temple not to be missed
  • The Dieng plateau – for a view to befallen dozens of volcanoes and impressive terraced crops (loop made by scooter)
  • Kedaton restaurant in Solo – for Indonesian dishes at prices more than reasonable and its patio as pleasant as its staff

Bromo volcano

  • An essential step that it is quite possible to do without organized tour but by yourself and for a much lower price
  • Prefer the train to get there!

Ijen volcano

  • Banana Homestay in Banyuwangi – for the warm welcome of its owner Frida who welcomes you with open arms in this small quality guesthouse at a very reasonable price and with a full and delicious breakfast!

Sulawesi island

  • Rent a scooter – to discover the Toraja land alone between rice paddies
  • Tau Tau from Bori and Tatamongla – for amazing and symbolic cultural sites of Toraja culture
  • View from the village of Batutumonga and homestay at John – for a breathtaking view over the valley of Toraja country
  • Warung Felishia in Barana – for delicious traditional Indonesian dishes in a beautiful setting

Bali island

Ubud

  • The two ballads on foot in the surrounding paddy fields. The start of the trail is behind the museum
  • Balinese dance show Spirit of Bali (every Tuesday) at the temple of Kutuh district – to discover the well-known Balinese dances accompanied by a troupe of quality traditional musicians
  • Spa Botanica, thanks to Lucie for this great tip, 2h spice massage – to be absolutely tested for a moment of intense relaxation
  • Restaurant Ibu ô ka – to taste the local specialty Balinese pig on the spit in this institution, validated by chickens, and also by Fred Chesnaux attention!
  • Café AA Juicery and café – for a low-cost vegetarian restaurant and tasty food
  • Warung D’carik – for a little warung serving simple and tasty Balinese cuisine, especially curries!
  • Hotel Sari Wangi cottages – to reside in a green setting as possible and enjoy beautiful rooms open to the terrace

South east of Bali

  • Temples Besakih and Tirta GANGGA – for monuments that deserve a glance
  • The surroundings of the small town of Sidemen, rice fields and a beautiful countryside to explore by scooter
  • Krishna hotel – for a nice setting and nice rooms

Flores island

Labuan bajo

  • The beautiful and quiet beach of Waecicu Eden beach hôtel (not to be confused with Waecicu beach which has nothing to please for)
  • Night fish market – to enjoy the catch of the day at a modest price
  • Bajo Bakery – to enjoy real homemade bread with a beautiful view of the harbor
  • Warung Mama – a nice option for small wallets in this somewhat expensive city like Luaban Bajo

Moni

  • Guesthouse Palm bungalows – for the kindness and hospitality of Robert and his family. As much on the plate as to help you discover the region of Moni
  • The Kelilutumutu volcano and its descent on a hike – for a very unusual landscape with unbeatable accessibility
